About the Artist
My interest in painting-- from life and from flowers in my garden--has taken a new focus in the past
year, with independent studies at the Regenstein School of the Chicago Botanic Garden. I have been
examining plants with a new eye as I pursue the discipline of a botanical artist. I have also enjoyed
plein air painting at the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Middlefork Savanna near my home, and another
restored meadow, at Mettawa Manor.
BACKGROUND
I am currently enrolled in independent study at the Chicago Botanic Garden with leadership of
Marlene Hill Donnelly, a scientic illustrator with the Field Museum of Natural History; and Derek
Norman, a botanic illustrator and preservationist of Illinois native plants. My background includes a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree cum laude from the University of South Dakota.
Flowers, country scenes, houses, and gardens are the predominant themes of my paintings.
Settings include the Midwestern and Southwestern United States; and Provence, Bordeaux, and
Paris, France. I am the staff artist of the Wilmette Public Library, creating posters with a variety of
media and lettering to publicize their programs. I also produce murals, constructions, and room
decorations for seasonal projects at the Library.
Beyond my home studio, I show paintings at local art fairs, exhibits, and juried shows. My work is for
sale at Lake Forest Frame and Design Studio, 204 East Westminster, Lake Forest, IL; My note cards
are sold at Lake Forest Frame and Design Studio; Peg Ann Kompany, Lake Bluff, IL; and the Gift
Shop of St. David's Episcopal Church, Glenview. I have paintings in private and corporate collections
in the United States, England, and Australia.
